An official currency circulates across the realms, while a separate local currency is used in Mile City and its underground markets; spiritual crystals and interstellar energy ore also serve as hard currency in high-value trades. Its nightclub, underground arena and narcotics workshops reveal different layers of the same city.
The Zha Hujie Family holds Mile City as its stronghold, controlling predatory lending, spiritual narcotics and the underground market while maintaining covert ties with the Shadow Council. Zha Hujie leads the family, supported by a commander of sworn fighters and a steward. Its power has expanded for roughly seventy years, reaching well beyond the city itself.
In Year 20 of the Xiao Ling Era, the family's sworn-fighter commander and an accomplice conspire to shatter Xiao Ling's knee during a dance competition. His stage career ends and he is left with a debt of 1.39 million. Mile City's underworld is not distant background; it drives Xiao Ling into crisis and forces him to seek another path.
